Love Reading?  You’ll Love Our Library”

Through a diverse collection of books and materials, we celebrate different cultures, perspectives and voices, enabling every student to see themselves reflected in our library while also being exposed to new ideas and world views.

The library is situated behind the main school building next to the Science block in its own purpose-built architect award winning building. It is generally open to students from 08.00 through to 16.00 every day for independent study but this is subject to change when events are taking place.

Home to more than 5,200 printed books as well as magazines & journals, it also has computers available for homework and research and dedicated staff who are always on hand to offer help and advice.  Students may borrow up to three books for a period of two weeks; books can be renewed by visiting the library on or before the due date or via the web app.  The Library catalogue can be searched from any computer via the web app AccessIT

Library staff are keen to provide books for pupils to read for pleasure and stock the latest young adult titles as well as responding to requests and purchasing prize shortlisted books. The inclusive and diverse range of fiction includes everything from graphic novels and manga to classics, with a wide range of best-sellers and literary award winners. There is an emphasis on contemporary young teen and young adult fiction and providing as much choice as possible. The non-fiction collection complements the curriculum while also encouraging pupils’ wider reading and independent exploration, with many sections recently updated to promote reading for pleasure.

More than books

  • Individual reading – a warm, welcoming, comfortable space for our school community to relax with a great book.
  • Pastoral support – the library is a calm, quiet space for all and we are here to listen to and support our pupils.
  • All Year 7 students take part in a library induction session to familiarize themselves with the library and discover the range of resources available to them.
  • We have a selection of board and card games for use at break and lunch times including chess, draughts, Guess Who, Top Trumps, Uno and more.
  • Book clubs – Currently hosting a Manga book club after school on Wednesdays, catering to the strong interest in Manga among students.
  • Academic support – the library is a wonderful learning environment with many paper and online resources. During lesson time the library becomes a quiet space for our College pupils to be able to work independently and is a place for all year groups to complete their homework after school.
