TLA Student homework guide
We have a structured homework strategy this term to boost your progress and prepare you for future success. Research shows completing regular homework adds an average of 5 months of extra academic progress a year!
You will have been given a homework folder that you need to put all of your homework tasks into. This folder should be bought into school with you every day as it forms part of your equipment and will be checked by your teachers and your tutors.

What will homework look like? All KS3 homework focuses on building key subject vocabulary. You will receive dedicated paper booklets for each subject which you will put into your homework folders. You will be given vocabulary homework to focus on

You may also complete further enrichment activities or look at the additional subject links provided by your teachers in the homework booklets and the subject areas of the homework website. How much time will I spend on homework? Plan for 30 minutes per subject task per week or fortnight. You can break this into smaller blocks (e.g., three 10-minute sessions) for better focus and retention. How will homework be checked? Work is checked in class with immediate feedback and assessed in your Snapshots. Completing homework earns you merits. If work is missed, class teachers will record it and contact home to arrange support. |

What will homework look like? KS4 homework is bespoke to your subjects and focuses on three core ingredients:

Our homework system is designed to build independent study habits, strengthen core vocabulary, and maximise GCSE readiness.
How the System Works

Key Stage 3: Homework is focused on subject specific key vocabulary. Students work through paper booklets, completing 30-minute tasks. They will spend a maximum of 30 minutes on a task each week. It is often useful to break this into 10 minute blocks.

The tasks will be the same each week in every subject but the words will be different, this ensures that students have consistency and routine in their homework. Students will complete seven tasks over the half term:

Students may also complete further enrichment activities or look at the additional subject links provided by their subject teachers in the homework booklets and the subject areas of the homework website.

Key Stage 4: Homework is focused on three key areas -
Retrieval - to strengthen memory, build confidence and prepare students for application of knowledge in lessons and further tasks.
Vocabulary - to develop and practice key vocabulary in subjects.
Revision and exam practice - to consolidate and practice knowledge and skillsin preparation for assessment and exams.

Daily Folder Check: Every student has a dedicated Homework Folder which they log the date that their homework is due in, they can share this with you and make copies so that you can review this timetable at home to help them manage deadlines.
Checking, Feedback & Accountability

Homework is regularly checked in class, giving students immediate feedback to reinforce classroom learning.

Student progress is evaluated through snapshot assessments and formal exams.

Merits are awarded for consistent effort. If a student misses a homework deadline, the class teacher will log the missing task and contact home so we can work together to get them back on track.
