Detailed Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum intent:
Our curriculum is ambitious, broad and balanced. It inspires our students to achieve academic excellence through the development of character, resilience and cultural capital.

Our curriculum is built on our core values and will enable students to:

  • Respect themselves, others and their environment.
  • Explore global perspectives, expanding their cultural capital.
  • Aspire to academic excellence as part of a lifelong learning journey.
  • Persevere in the face of challenge and adversity.

The national curriculum is extended and contextualised in our academy to meet the specific needs of our community.

Our curriculum implementation:
The experiences on offer both within and outside the timetable are designed to give our students a broad and balanced experience. Our curriculum is reviewed each year and adjusted to ensure:

  • resources are used effectively
  • subjects have the correct time allocation and content
  • the subjects on offer are in line with our intent
  • we comply with the national curriculum
  • is relevant and offers progression and challenge to our new students and our students as they move onto their next steps.

Our curriculum description:
The academy runs a two week timetable with five lessons of one hour each day – in a 2-2-1 formation – so one lesson in the afternoon. The time allocated to each subject area is reviewed annually.

The number of lessons allocated to each subject is summarised below:
