KS3
In KS3 students in year 7 will develop their basic skills and physical fitness levels specific to the sports they are focussing on. Throughout each Half Term students will complete a block of two sports. Within each of these sports students will develop their skills in a range of isolated and conditioned practices. Where appropriate there will also be a focus on analysing individual and group performances with an emphasis on providing constructive feedback. Students will learn about the rules of the activities they are participating in and show their knowledge through applying them to competitive situations.
In year 8 students are challenged to apply the skills they learnt and developed across Year 7 whilst further improving their physical fitness levels. As a class they will be expected to enhance their knowledge of the rules and continue to apply them in competitive situations. New to the Intermediate stage of learning is an emphasis on decision making assessed across a variety of scenarios, conditioned games and matches designed to challenge our students' thought processes, giving them the opportunity to think tactically about their choices of skills that they use in different situations. They will continue to focus on analysing individual and group performances with an emphasis on providing constructive feedback using the correct terminology.
In year 9 students will now focus on mastering skills and demonstrating them effectively in fully competitive situations. Students will continue to show high levels of physical fitness and demonstrate the essential social values expected of them pre, during and post-lesson time. Again, where appropriate there will also be key focusses based around analysing individual and group performances with an emphasis on providing detailed and applicable feedback, well formulated responses and methods in which students can further improve their performance. Whilst continuing to enhance knowledge and understanding of sports students are provided explicit opportunities to develop their leadership skills with good progression leading into our KS4 Sports Leaders Programme.
